Car and Tram Collisions

The Age recently reported that collisions between cars and trams continue to be a major problem in Inner Melbourne.

30% of collisions occur in the city centre, and all the sites of major collisions are in the City – including the worst site at Elizabeth and Collins St. A U turn across the tram tracks may mean the tram driver has to brake suddenly, causing passengers to be jarred and sometimes injured inside the tram.

Yarra Trams is renewing its appeal to car drivers to respect the yellow lines marking the separation where they are in place. Work will continue to separate trams and cars from the mixed road environment they currently share.
